Dia 117 / Day 117 - October 27/2012

We got to Venice in the morning and found the city flooded.  The tide had gone up and the water had gone inside restaurants, hotels and houses.  We talked to a hotel employees and he said that it happens every year, that it could not be predicted with a lot of time and that this time it was a bit higher than usual so there was a lot of water.  Everybody, including tourists, was wearing rain boots or some sort of protection so their shoes did not get wet.

When the tide went down it was possible to walk around the city and see more places.  We went to the market and the we crossed the Gran Canal by gondola like the locals do… the gondola moves a lot, they loaded it with 12 to 14 people, and with the high tide, the wind and the waves… it was very interesting!

In the afternoon we went to Murano, a small island in front of Venice, where they make glass pieces.  We saw a guy blowing glass and went for a walk around town and seeing the different pieces in the stores… there are pieces for all styles!
Later we went to Burano, another island where the specialty is embroidery.  The other attractive of this town is that the houses are painted of different bright colours.  The town looks beautiful decorated this way.
