Today’s forecast is rain, so we decided to visit some museums.  We started with San Marco’s Museum, then we went inside Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral (very nice frescoe on the duomo) and finally went to the Galleria degli Uffizi which we manage to enter after more than 2 hours lining up.

At night we went to the new market and we touched the nose of the wild boar to come back to Florence.

Dia 120 / Day 120 - October 30/2012

Regresamos a Florencia y estuvimos visitando mas lugares.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the morning we went to Fiesole, a small town close to Florence.  It is located in a mountain where we had a magnificent view of Florence.  In Fiesole we went to 15 Via Giuseppe Verdi where Marcela’s aunt used to live, what a view from that site… just look at the pictures!  We then visited the monastery and the Cathedral.

We got back to Florence and went to see more places.  We visited the Fortezza da Basso (can only be seen from outside, it has been converted into a convention centre), Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, walked around river Arno, went to Ponte Vecchio (old bridge) and Pitti Palace.

For dinner we had the famous bisteca Fiorentina, a huge grilled T-bone stake; this is a very tipical dish in Florence.

Dia 118 / Day 118 - October 28/2012

The tide went up again this morning.  When we got to Venice the tide wast going down but everything was flooded, it was also really cold and there were high winds.  We walked around but there were areas impassable due to the amount of water.  We got back to the house early.

Dia 117 / Day 117 - October 27/2012

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We got to Venice in the morning and found the city flooded.  The tide had gone up and the water had gone inside restaurants, hotels and houses.  We talked to a hotel employees and he said that it happens every year, that it could not be predicted with a lot of time and that this time it was a bit higher than usual so there was a lot of water.  Everybody, including tourists, was wearing rain boots or some sort of protection so their shoes did not get wet.

When the tide went down it was possible to walk around the city and see more places.  We went to the market and the we crossed the Gran Canal by gondola like the locals do… the gondola moves a lot, they loaded it with 12 to 14 people, and with the high tide, the wind and the waves… it was very interesting!

In the afternoon we went to Murano, a small island in front of Venice, where they make glass pieces.  We saw a guy blowing glass and went for a walk around town and seeing the different pieces in the stores… there are pieces for all styles!
Later we went to Burano, another island where the specialty is embroidery.  The other attractive of this town is that the houses are painted of different bright colours.  The town looks beautiful decorated this way.
