Our backpacking trip: Diciembre 4 / December 4

Hoy manejamos hacia el Parque Nacional Tongariro. Fuimos a la base del Monte Ruapehu y disfrutamos de la vista el poquito tiempo que permitieron las nubes. Despues manejamos por el Monte Tongariro y Monte Ngauruhoe, pero estaba muy nublado y no se veia mucho. Decidimos no hacer la caminada porque el clima no estaba cooperando.

Luego paramos en un criadero de trucha de Taupo.

Despues llegamos al Lago Taupo donde nos encontramos con Carla, una couch surfer que hospedamos en Christchurch. Salimos a caminar por el pueblo con ella y en la noche nos encontramos con Facundo, su novio, y fuimos a comer al restaurante donde trabaja Carla.

Dormimos en un camping gratis bastante popular a las afueras de Taupo al lado del rio Waikato.

Today we are driving to Tongariro National Park. We went up to the base of Mount Ruapehu and enjoyed the short period of time we got clear view of it. We then drove through Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe; however it was too cloudy and we could not see much. We also discarded the possibility of doing the Tongariro crossing due to the weather.

We stopped at Taupo trout hatchery.

We then arrived at Lake Taupo where we met with Carla, a couch surfers we hosted in Christchurch. We went walking around town with her and we later met Facundo, her boyfriend and went for dinner at the restaurant Carla works.

We slept at the very popular free campground outside Taupo by Waikato river.
