Diciembre 15 / December 15

Despues continuamos hacia Cabo Reinga.

In the morning we went to the only refinery in New Zealand, Marsden Point Refinery.  We watched a video about the refining process and learned about the quantities they get out of a liter of oil:

53mls of 95 Octane
276mls of 91 Octane
323mls of Diesel
186mls of Jet Fuel
118mls of Bitumen and Fuel Oils
2mls of Sulphur
42mls of Refinery Fuel

We then continue our journey to Cape Reinga.  We took the scenic drive, however it was not a great day.  We took a gravel road and got a flat tire, just 2 days before we have to hand her over to her new owners and it is the first flat tire she gets.  We were able to change it quite quickly and made it to Kawakawa at 5:00pm; just as the tire repair garage was closing.  Luckily the guys were kind enough, looked at it but said that most damages from that road required a new tire… sure enough that was our case, the tire was buggered!  We were extremely lucky because it was Friday at 5:00pm… if it was not for those guys we would have had to drive with the spare tire all weekend long or get back to Whangarei to get a new tire.

After a long day of just driving we arrived at Cape Reinga around 9:30pm.  We went to take a look at this special place but it was too dark so we decided to sleep and get there in the morning for sunrise.  We spent the night at Tapotupotu Campground managed by the DOC, a great place by the beach.
