Dia 261 / Day 261 - March 20/201

In the morning we got breakfast and started riding our camels back to the place where the jeep will pick us up again.  The pain of a full day of riding a camel is undescribable; everything hurts… the inside of your legs and your butt feel like it the skin was peeling off.  Part of the problem is that riding a camel is not like riding a horse… the camel walks really funny and there are no feet supports, so your legs are hanging so the blood flow is not the best; on top of every the camel is very wide so your legs are spread wide out.  Finally, there is no proper seat like a horse seat, just a very thin mattress (which is the one we slept on).

During the journey the guides also make the camels run which make it a little bit more unpleasant, but this is all part of the fun.

The guide, on his broken English that he has learned with tourist and on the street (he does not know how to read or write his own language), tought us to remember India was:
One, two, three, India nothing free.  Four, five, six, India no price fix.  Seven, eight, nine, India is fine.

We got back to Jaisalmer just in time to visit the Jain temples that close at noon.  We went around three magnificent temples with beautiful stone carvings throughout.

Later in the afternoon we went to visit a few Havelis in town.  These beautiful buildings were constructed in the early 19th century for residential purposes.  Most of them are now either private residences or stores (to which you can enter but very difficult to leave without buying something, they really pressure anybody that goes in to buy something).  Only one is managed by the government and is accessible to the public.
