Agosto 16 - 20 / August 16 - 20

... pues bueno, no ayudaron. Vamos a ver cuánto me dura.

At 8:00am on August 16 we went to El Nido port to catch the ferry to Coron.  The boat is nice but not comfortable at all.  The sitting area is made of just wooden benches or one could sit on the outside deck or corridors, either way it is very uncomfortable.

After 6 hours we got to Coron where we took a tricycle to the centre.  We got nice accommodation for the next few days.

The rest of the afternoon we spent it walking around town and talking to some people in the dive shops.

We are not doing much on August 17, we are waiting for Jorge to meet us in Coron so we are taking a rest day to wait for him.  Later in the afternoon Jorge sent us a a message letting us know that he had missed his flight from Manila so he would not be joining us in Coron.

Remember what I said about the water in El Nido and the precautions we took in order not to get sick?... well, they did not help.  I came down with a bad stomach issues (you know what I mean).  Let’s see how long this lasts.

We selected Amphibiko Diving Centre and will be going diving in the ship wrecks around Coron with them.

August 18 was a beautiful diving day.  We went to 3 dive sites.  East Tangat, supposedly an auxiliary anti submarine craft and tug boat of the Imperial Japanese Navy Combined Fleet WWII; Morazan Maru (Former Olympia Maru), an auxiliary cargo ship of the Imperial Japanese Army in WWII; and Lusong Gunboat, an auxiliary patrol boat by Imperial Japanese Navy.  Going through the ship wrecks was a great diving experience.

On August 19 we went for an island hopping tour around Coron.  We visited many incredible places, beautiful rock formations, great snorkelling spots, beautiful lakes and amazing beaches.  Look at the pictures!

In the morning of August 20 we rented a motorcycle so we can visit Concepcion Waterfalls.  On the way to the waterfalls we found Kingfisher Park, a small but well maintained park that offers different tours like kayaking through the mangrove area, jungle trekking and firefly watching.  Unfortunately we do not have time to do any of these activities but would have loved to come back in the evening for the firefly watching.

We then visited Concepcion Waterfalls where there is a nice swimming area.  As it was the weekend there were lots of locals coming for a picnic and to enjoy the day in the natural/man-made pool.  On the way back to Coron we got into heavy rain, to the point that it was difficult to see but we managed to go back on time to catch the ferry to Manila.

We left on the 4:30pm overnight ferry from Coron to Manila.  It was our first time on an overnight ferry but we really enjoyed it.  The locals are friendly and the sleeping arrangements are very good.  We were on the bunk bed section without AC and it was just perfect.  One could get a private room with AC but it is a lot more expensive and the experience might not be the same.

The ferry trip was not a fun one with stomach issues, it has been almost 4 days since I came down with this bug and I am not feeling any better.
