Mayo 28 - 29 / May 28 - 29

On May 28 we arranged with the guesthouse a boat tour around Inle Lake to see the fisherman and the floating gardens.  Due to the rain yesterday we did not have the possibility to see them and actually were the ones we wanted to see.

We are going with Trista, a girl we met during the walk.  At 10:00am we embarked on a small boat and the driver took us exactly where we wanted.  It was amazing to see the fisherman’s technique and how they row with their legs.  Most people say this is now a show and the fishing technique is not used anymore… and I can see why, you might not eat for days if you rely solely on such an ancient technique; however I am glad somebody is still showing it to the world even if it is to make a few dollars per day out of it.  Of course we gave a donation to the fisherman that voluntarily showed us the technique and he was happy with what we gave him.  Actually, to those that disagree, I do not see a difference between what he is doing and a busker; both are trying to make a living from a skill they have learned.

We returned to the guesthouse and rented bicycles to go to the winery and other places around.  We rode the bikes to the winery where we sampled 4 types of wine they make… not the greatest but the winery is located among a beautiful landscape, so we stay for a bit to enjoy the view.  We also weathered a storm while in the winery.  On the way down from the winery we met a group of ladies that were collecting fruits around the area; they were very lovely and shared with us jackfuit, which was amazing!

We then continue riding to Maing Thauk, a small town on the east side of the lake.  Just before getting on a boat to cross the lake we had to weather another storm, this one passed by in just a few minutes.  We crossed the lake to Kaung Daing Village and from there we rode our bikes back to Nyaung Shwe.  It was a very nice day after all and the rain did not bother us much.

On May 29 we met with Trista in the morning and went to the market.  What a great market… have we said we love market?  Well, this was an entertaining one.  A lot of new things, we tried a couple of sweet stuff and investigated a few spices we had never seen before, among many other things.

We are leaving on an overnight bus to Hsipaw.  We were picked up at 3:30pm at our guesthouse.
