Nos levantamos a las 1:30am
par air a Ijen, otro volcan en Java.
Despues de 40 minutos en carro llegamos a la base del volcan. Despues de mucha discusion con el
conductor y el guia porque no tenian suficientes mascaras de gas para todos,
empezamos a caminar. Nos tomo un
par de horas llegar a la cima, la cual segun nuestro guia es 600 metros mas
alto que donde empezamos.
La primera parada fue a ver
la llama azul, es donde extractan el sulfuro. Pudimos verla un par de veces desde la distancia. Desfortunadamente la bajada a ver la
llama azul esta cerrada para turistas ya que los gases han llegado a limites
toxicos muy altos despues de una erupcion en Enero. Sin embargo los mineros bajan a extraer el sulfuro cada dia
sin ninguna proteccion. Extraen
alrededor de 80Kg cada vez y lo suben a la cima del volcan para despues bajarlo
a la base de la montaña. Es un
trabajo demasiado pesado por un par de dolares al dia. Es bastante triste ver lo que tiene que
hacer la gente en estos paises para darle de comer a sus familias; en este caso
estan poniendo sus vidas en riesgo y disminuyendo su expectative de vida todo
por darle de comer a sus familias.
Despues estuvios en la cima
del volcan y pudimos apreciar la maravillosa vista con la salida del sol. Desafortunadamente se nublo por un
rato. Estuve caminando alrededor
de la cima del volcan y pude tener una vista diferente del lago y sin mucha
neblina.
Descendimos como a las
8:30am y nos llevaron a Ketapang para tomar el ferry que cruza a Bali. El ferry se demora unos 30 minutos; ya
en Bali tomamos el bus que se llama Bemo que nos llevo a Lovina. Hubo que negociar bastante el precio
porque hay vivarachos que nos queria cobrar mas de lo que era,
desafortunadamente el chofer del bus no hablaba nada de Ingles asi que
estabamos en manos de los vivarachos.
Nos costo IRD35,000 (USD3) por un recorrido de 2 horas… eso si, a 40Km
por hora máximo!
Cuando llegamos a Lovina
caminamos al hotel, nos instalamos y descansamos un rato. En la tarde estuvimos viendo el
atardecer y organizamos un paseo en bote para mañana.

We woke up at 1:30am to go
to Ijen, another volcano in Java.
After a 40 minutes drive we arrive at the base of the volcano. After a lot of hassle with the driver
and guide because they did not have enough gas masks for everybody, we started
walking uphill. It took us a
couple of hours to reach the summit, which, as per our guide’s information, is
more than 600 meters higher than where we started.
The first stop was to see
the blue flame, this is where they extract the sulfur. We could see a couple of flickerings of
the blue flame from the distance.
Unfortunately the descent is closed for visitors as the fumes have
reached very high toxic levels after an eruption in January. However, the local sulfur miners go
down there to extract sulfur every day and without any protection. They extract around 80Kg at the time
but they have to bring it up to the rim and then down to the mountain. It is a lot of work for a few dollars a
day. It is sad to see what people
have to do in these countries to put food on the table; in this case they are
putting their own health at risk and shortening their life expectation just to
feed their families.
We then went back to the rim
and had a nice view of the whole volcano during the sunrise. Unfortunately it got really foggy for a
while. I went for a walk around the
rim and had a different look of the volcano without too much fog.
We came down at around
8:30am and drove to Ketapang to take the ferry to cross to Bali. The ferry takes around 30 minutes to go
across; once in Bali we took the local bus called Bemo towards Lovina. It was a bit of a scramble with the
touts that want to charge more than the regular price but unfortunately the
driver did not speak any English so we were at the mercy of the touts. It cost us just IRD35,000 (USD3) for a
2 hours bus ride… at 40Km per hour at the most!

ReplyDeleteQue lindo también este volcán. Y me siguen descrestando con el estado físico, van de caminada en caminada y todas de varios kilómetros. Los admiro. Y Bali yo quiero yo quiero, que construcciones tan lindas y como siempre que buenas fotos. Un beso
