Our backpacking trip: Dia 216 / Day 216

Hoy salimos en el bus de las 10:00am desde Nuwara Eliya a Kataragama, un pueblo con mucha historia religiosa. Katagarama es un pueblo de peregrinaje sagrado para los Budistas, Hindus y Vedda. El pueblo cuenta con un complejo religioso donde 4 religiones (Budismo, Hinduismo, Animism e Islamismo) comparten dentro de un mismo lugar. La diferencia se ve marcada con los Musulmanes, ellos tienen la mezquita separada del resto de los otros templos. Sin embargo, es dificil diferenciar entre los templos Budistas y Hindus… uno camina en el complejo religioso y realmente no sabe a cual templo esta entrando, los dioses a los que adoran son los mismos para las dos religiones.

En la tarde llegamos donde Silva, el couch surfer que nos va a recibir por los proximos dias. El hospedaje es en una casa en un arbol, a unos 8 o 10 metros de altura.

Fuimos al pueblo a conocer un poco.

Today we left on the 10:00am bus from Nuwara Eliya to Kataragama, a town with lots of religious history. Kataragama is a pilgrimage town sacred to Buddhist, Hindus and indigenous Vedda people of Sri Lanka. The town has a religious complex where Buddhist, Hindus, Veddas and Muslims practice their religion together. There is a significant difference with the Muslims; they have their mosque separated from the rest of the temples. Nevertheless, it is difficult to differentiate between Buddhists and Hindus… walking in the religious complex it is difficult to differentiate between Buddhist and Hindu temples, even the gods they pray are the same for both religions.

In the afternoon we arrived at Silva’s place, the couch surfer that is going to host us for the next few days. We are going to stay in a tree house, around 8 to 10 meters above ground.

We went to town to walk around a little bit.
