En la mañana fuimos donde el costurero… algunas de las
prendas que compramos necesitan ser arregladas, asi que fuimos donde el
costurero cerca del hotel. Despues
de que le explicamos que necesitabamos le preguntamos por el precio y nos dice
“lo que usted quiera”, lo que significa que le podemos dar lo que creamos
justo.
Despues tomamos un Tuk Tuk hasta la estacion de buses para
ir a Eklingji y Nagda, un par de pueblos cercanos donde queremos visitar unos
templos. En la estacion tomamos un
colectivo y llegamos a Eklingji en 30 minutos. Alli visitamos Shri Eklingji Prabhu – Complejo de Templo de
Shiva, el cual tiene 108 altares.
Este lugar es bastante impresionante, todos los templos son todos
labrados en piedra, con muchos detalles y esculturas. Este es todavia un templo activo y la gente viene a hacer
sus pujas.
Salimos del templo y caminamos un rato preguntando como
llegar a Nagda. Despues de caminar
un rato tomamos un Tuk Tuk que iba bastante lleno (mas o menos 10 personas). Nos hicieron sentar al frente con el
conductor y la palanca de cambios quedo entre mis piernas… imaginense eso. Fue un trayecto muy corto asi que sali
ileso de una manoseada. Llegamos
al Templo Saas-Bahu, construido en
el siglo IX, es una hermosura; tiene una talla en la roca con unos detalles
impresionantes, esta muy bien preservado y tiene varias figuras eroticas.
Despues caminamos un poco para llegar al Templo Adbudji de
la religion Jain. Este templo es
hecho de marmol blanco pero esta bajo reconstruccion asi que no hay mucho que
ver.
Salimos a la carretera principal para tomar un bus de
regreso a Udaipur, mientras caminabamos vimos mucha accion, mucha gente
bañandose en la represa del pueblo, señoras lavando la ropa, señoras lavandose
el pelo en un arroyo, etc… Llegamos a la carretera principal y tomamos un bus
que nos llevo a Udaipur por las carreteras pequeñas y destapadas, pero ha sido
la montada en bus mas entretenida y maravillosa del paseo hasta ahora. Nos montamos al bus y eramos los unicos
turistas, de hecho, creo que no hay mucho turista que frecuente esta ruta de
bus. Habian muchas señoras
vistiendo sarees de muchos colores, niños y señores. Nos dijeron que nos sentaramos en la parte de adelante del
bus, Marcela se sento mirando la gente, yo me rehuse a sentarme, preferi
quedarme parado para disfrutar del paisaje y ver la gente. El bus paso por muchos pueblitos, la
mayoria con casas hechas de tapia.
El bus tambien sirve como compañia de envios, la gente sale a la
carretera y le entrega una bolsa, costal o caja al ayudante y le da
instrucciones de donde la tiene que entregar; es bastante entretenido cuando
llegan al lugar que ellos creen y comienzan a preguntar donde es que la tienen
que entregar. Direcciones en India
no son las mas claras del mundo, todo es cerca de algo pero nada tiene
direccion especifica… asi que se pueden imaginar. Sin embargo, lo mas entretenido del recorrido fue cuando un
par de señores montaron 3 cabras en la maleta del bus. Con mucha facilidad las montaron, pero
en cada curva y brinco del bus las pobres cabritas gritaban, nos dio mucho
pesar pero vimos como llegaron vivas a su destino.
Llegamos a Udaipur y fuimos a almorzar en un restaurante
cerca al mercado. La comida estaba
deliciosa como siempre.
En la tarde hicimos un tour en lancha alrededor del lago,
donde vimos la ciudad, el palacio del lago y el palacio de la ciudad desde otra
perspectiva.
Despues del tour en lancha caminamos de regreso al centro y
fuimos a comprar una pintura en seda donde el pintor que conocimos ayer, este
es el souvenir de Rajasthan.
En la noche fuimos a Bagore Ki Haveli a ver un show de
musica, baile tradicional y marionetas.
El show estuvo muy bueno y pudimos ver y apreciar parte de la cultura
Rajasthani.
Despues del show fuimos a recoger las cosas donde el
costurero. Alli nos quedamos como
40 minutos hablando conds el y su hijo… que gente tan especial! El consturero se sintio mal por habernos
hecho perder nuestro valioso tiempo, no fue tiempo perdido, pero insistio en
regalarle un pequeño bolso a Marcela.
Despues nos fuimos a comer a Lotus Café, el lugar donde
almorzamos ayer. Queriamos comerl
Kale Papad ki Subzi, el plato tradicional de Rajasthan que comimos ayer. El mesero no tenia la receta lista para
nosotros pero nos dijo que nos mandaba un e-mail, pero me mostro como se
hacia. Estaba delicioso!
Mañana salimos muy temprano asi que decidimos pagar en el
hotel hoy para no perder tiempo mañana.
Teniamos que pagar por 2 noches y algo de comida que consumimos en el
restaurante. Fue super dificil
para que calcularan la cuenta, el dueño no estaba y los otros trabajadores son
todos jovenes. Cuando nos dieron
la cuenta eran 1575 rupees, asi que les di 1600 rupees divididos en 3 billetes
de 500 y 1 billete de 100. Ellos
me preguntaron por la plata de la pieza, a lo cual les respondi que estaba
incluida… ellos alegaron que no era asi.
Yo les dije que eran 775 por la comida y 800 por los dos dias de la
pieza. Aun asi ellos no estaban
claros con mis cuentas. Les pedi
la plata de devuelta y les cambie los billetes, les di 1 billete de 500 y 1
billete de 100 por la pieza e hice lo mismo para la comida. En ese momento todo quedo claro y
entendieron que era lo que estaba pasando.

The day started with a short visit to the tailor… some of
the things we bought need to be fixed, so we went to the local tailor around
the hotel. After explaining what
we needed done we asked him the price and he told us “as you wish”, meaning we
could give him whatever we felt it was fair.
We then took a Tuk Tuk to the bus station to go to Eklingji
and Nagda, a couple of towns close by to visit some temples. We took a minibus and arrived in Eklingji
30 minutes later. We visited the Shri
Eklingji Prabhu - Shiva Temple complex, which has 108 shrines. This area is really impressive, lots of
small details on the carvings and many people coming to perform their pujas.
We then walked for a bit and then took a very crowded Tuk
Tuk (around 10 people in total) to Nagda.
We were siting in the front with the driver and the shift stick was
between my legs… imagine that. It
was a short ride anyways so no harm there. We visited Saas-Bahu Temple, built in the 9th century, this
temple has very detailed carving including some erotic figures.
We then walked for a short distance to the Jain Temple of
Adbudji, made of white marble this is going through reconstruction so not much
to see here.
We then walked to the main road to get a bus to go back to
Udaipur, on the way there was a lot of action going on, lots of people taking a
bath on the local reservoir, ladies washing cloths, ladies washing their hair
on a small creek, etc… We arrived at the main road and got on a bus that took
us to Udaipur through the scenic route, it was the most entertaining and
beautiful bus ride so far. When we
got on the bus we were the only tourist, as a matter of fact, I do not think
there has been many other tourists before on this bus. There were lots of ladies in colourful
sarees, kids and old men. They
made space for us to sit on the front, Marcela sat facing the people but I
refused to sit, I wanted to stand up and enjoy the scenery. The bus went through several villages,
some with houses made with wood and a mix of soil and cow dung. The bus also does deliveries, people
come to the side of the road and gives a bag, box or sac to the driver and some
instructions to where to drop it off; it is entertaining when they start asking
everybody in town where is the place of delivery. Nevertheless, the most fascinating part of the trip was when
two old men asked to put 3 goats in the trunk. With ease they manage to load them in the trunk, but on
every bump or turn of the bus they were screaming… we felt sorry for them but
they made it safe to their destination.
We arrived in Udaipur and went for lunch in an area close to
the local market. Food was really
good, like everywhere else.
We then went for a boat tour on the lake where we had a different
view of town, lake palace and city palace.
After the boat tour we walked back to town and went to talk
to our painter friend and where we bough a small silk painting as a souvenir of
Rajasthan.
In the evening we went to Bagore Ki Haveli for a music, folk
dancing and puppet show. It was
very nice to see the traditional dancing with their colourful dresses and
jewelery.
After the show we went to pick up our stuff from the
tailor. We spend a good 40 minutes
talking to him and his son… what a special people! He felt sorry for wasting our time, which we did not think
it was a waste at all, but he insisted and gave Marcela a small bag as gift.
We then went for dinner at Lotus Café, the place where we
had lunch yesterday. We wanted to
taste again Kale Papad ki Subzi, the traditional Rajasthani dish we enjoyed so
much. The waiter did not have the
recipe ready for us but wrote our e-mail addess and promised to e-mail it,
however he showed me how to cook it.
It was delicious!
We are checking out of the guesthouse tonight because we are
leaving early in the morning. We
need to pay for 2 nights of accommodation and some food we consume at the
restaurant. Getting the bill was a
long and painful process; the owner was not at the guesthouse at the time and
the people that work there are mostly young kids, however there was another man
there. They got the list of what
we consumed at the restaurant but needed to go through the menu to assign the
prices… this took some time. They
totaled the food bill and then they added the room fee… in total it was 1575
rupees. I gave then 1600 rupees
split in 3 500 rupees bill and 1 100 rupees bill. They asked me for the money for the room, to which I
responded that this was the total.
They argue it was not… so I told them that it was 775 for the food and
800 for the room and they had added all together… still they were not clear, so
I asked for the money back and I split it in two, so I gave them 1 500 rupees
bill and 3 100 rupees bills for the food; then I did the same for the
room. At that time everything came
to life and it was clear to them.
