Dia 116 / Day 116 - October 26/2012

In the morning we went to Venice, we took the bus that takes around 20 minutes to get to Venice’s bus station.  From there we took waterbus #1, that travels the Gran Canal from one end of the city to the other.  We saw everything around the Gran Canal, we got off at the last stop, San Marco square.  We walked around this area seeing everything.  In the afternoon it started raining so we started taking several waterbuses to see the city from the canals.

At night we met with Nino and his wife Gesa for dinner.  Nino was a classmate at the English institute in Toronto almost 13 years ago.  We went to have Spritz, a tipical Venecian coctail.  Then they invited us for dinner, it was roasted chicken which is something very tipical of the Veneto region in Italy.

Dia 115 / Day 115 - October 25/2012

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We went to Venice.  We got a fast train, not as fast as the German one, this one only gets up to 260Km/h.  We got to Mestre in the afternoon.  We went to Fernando’s place, where we are going to stay for the next few days and then went to Venice.  We walked around the city and saw as much as we could.

Venice is a beautiful place, with the canals, the bridges, the small pedestrian streets and the old houses.  The transit in Venice is only through water, cars, bicycles and motorcycles cannot get to the city.  People go around by private boat, by foot or by public transport called “waterbus”.  The caos around the canal is a lot of fun to see with the water taxis also involved in the mix.

Dia 114 / Day 114 - October 24/2012

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the morning we went to Lucca a city close to Pisa.  Lucca is beautiful, the old town is surrounded by a fortress with several entances.  One of the most important squares in town is Piazza Anfiteatro, in which the houses were built using the foundations of the one-time Roman amphiteater.  The Catedral is also very impressive as well as the numerous towers scatter around the city.  We climbed 207 steps to reach the top of Torre delle Ore where we had a very nice view of the old city.

We walked around town until the afternoon.  We went back to the hostel late in the afternoon and met some Turkish people that gave us a lot of information about Turkey and offer couch surfing at their place.

Dia 113 / Day 113 - October 23/2012

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We left in the morning for Pisa.  The train ride is only over 2 hours but it goes through lots of towns and beautiful mountains.

We arrived in Pisa and went to the hostel, left the luggage and went for a walk.  The hostel is only a couple of blocks away from the leaning tower of Pisa.  The Hostel Pisa Tower B&B is a very unique place; it is in an old house build in 1930’s and has only a few bedrooms.  The hostel is owned by two brothers, Fabio and Valerio, who keep it more like a home than hostel.  The decoration is quite something, everything is in bright colours, everything is very clean and organized.  Everything has a place and everything is in its place.  Highly recommended if you are coming to Pisa.

We went for a walk around Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of the Miracles), where the leaning tower of Pisa is located.  The square is very nice, the tower is quite impressive, the cathedral is beautiful and the whole area is very well kept.  We climbed almost 300 steps to the top, the view was amazing.

In the afternoon we went for a walk around downtown.  We saw many different places and had dinner in a very unique restaurant called “Numero 11”; it is a self service restaurant where the food was amazing.
