Finally we have everything packed up and hitting the road.  Having said that, we left some boxes to sort out when we get back from the south, let’s see how long that takes us!

We are heading to Stewart Island with a few stops along the way.  We drove past Moeraki Boulders, Katiki Point and Dunedin.

Hoy salimos de Christchurch.  En la mañana entregamos las llaves de la casa que teniamos rentada. La dueña de la casa fue una pesadilla durante los 3 años que vivimos en ella, nos hacia inspeccion cada 2 meses… las cuales nunca disfrutamos.

Nuestros amigos de Ashburton y Agustin organizaron una fiesta de despedida, la cual incluyo un BBQ y mucho alcohol…

Los siguientes dias los pasamos empacando a Lucy para el recorrido por Nueva Zelanda.

We left Christchurch in the afternoon after handing over the house keys to our “great” landlord.  Notice the quotation marks!  We had house inspections every 2 months for 3 years; which was not fun at all.

Our friends in Ashburton and Agustin organized a goodbye party for us, which included a BBQ and lots of alcohol…

The next few days we spent packing up for the road trip around New Zealand.

Hoy fue el ultimo dia de trabajo de los dos y el inicio de la segunda parte de nuestro viaje de mochileros. Vivir en Nueva Zelanda ha sido una experiencia maravillosa, hemos aprendido mucho y disfrutado de cada minuto.

Parece que fue ayer cuando llegamos a Christchurch con nuestras mochilas, compramos a Lucy y conseguimos trabajos. Marcela empezo a trabajar para Downer en un laboratorio de Ingenieria Civil al poco tiempode llegar, y aunque todo era nuevo para ella, aprendio mucho y cada dia tuvo mas responsabilidades. Carlos consiguio un trabajo en Hellers manejando el departamento de mantenimiento e ingenieria, el empezo a trabajar a finales de Noviembre de 2013. El disfruto mucho de su trabajo en Hellers, con algunos dias de muchas horas y algunos fines de semana, Carlos tuvo un equipo de trabajo excelente y aprendio mucho de cada nuevo reto.

Nueva Zeland nos ha permitido ahorrar el dinero necesario para empezar a viajar de nuevo y por eso estaremos siempre agradecidos. Tambien conocimos personas muy especiales, todos en Downer, Hellers y los demas que han hecho parte de nuestra aventura en Nueva Zelanda siempre ocuparan un lugar especial en nuestros corazones!

Lo que en un principio seria una pequeña parada en nuestro viaje de mochileros, se convirtio en una larga parada de 3 años y medio, la cual hemos disfrutado mucho. Ahora, antes de empezar nuestra nueva aventura tenemos que salir de todas las cosas materiales que acumulamos durane los ultimos 3 años y medio y aprender nuevamente a vivir de lo que cabe en un mochila. La diferencia en el principio es que Lucy sera nuestra casa por unas semanas.

Today was the last day at work for both of us and the start of our backpacking trip round 2.  Living in New Zealand has been an amazing experience, we have learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of our stay here. 

It seems like yesterday that we arrived in Christchurch with our backpacks, bought Lucy and got jobs.  Marcela started working for Downer in the civil engineering lab shortly after we arrived; and although everything was new for her she excelled at her job and was given a more and more responsibilities.  Carlos got a job at Hellers managing the engineering department; he started in late November 2013.  He enjoyed every minute of his time at Hellers, with his occasional weekends, long and frustrating days, he really enjoyed the people he worked with and the challenges Hellers put in front of him. 

New Zealand has giving us the opportunity to embark in this new adventure and for that we will be forever grateful.  We have also met wonderful people, everybody at Downer, Hellers and many people we have shared good moments along the way with. You will all have a very special place in our hearts!

What once was a short stop on our year-long trip has become a very long stop, but a very enjoyable one.  However before we get started in our new adventure we have to get rid off everything we acquired in the last 3 and a half years and live off a backpack again.  The difference is that for the first leg of this trip our new home will be Lucy so we can carry a few more stuff.

Recuerdos 2016 / Memories 2016

En Enero estuvimos mostrandole a la familia de Marcela los maravillosos paisajes de las islas Sur y Norte de Nueva Zelanda.

Estuvimos de paseo en Los Catlins, Lago Tekapo y otros lugares en la isla sur.

También visitamos algunos lugares en la isla norte como el Parque Nacional Tongariro donde hicimos una caminada de 19.8Km y aunque el clima no coopero la terminamos.

We also visited some places in the North Island and we did the Tongariro Crossing, however the weather was not the greatest that day.
