Marzo 1 / March 1

We woke up very early to see the sunrise at Kings Canyon, unfortunately the location was not the best to photograph it.  After sunrise we went to start the famous Kings Canyon hike.  We had to start the walk early in the morning because otherwise it will be close due to high heat later in the day.  If the temperature is forecasted to reach above 36C, the rangers close the walk by 9:00am for people’s safety.

It is a beautiful walk… it starts with a very steep climb on one of the mountain’s faces, however we got rewarded with an amazing view of the valley.  Once we reached the top it is a long but relatively easy walk until we started descending.  In total it was a 9Km walk with great scenery!  We finished at around 12:00pm.

We left Kings Canyon before lunch and started driving towards the Uluru.  On the way we found Mount Conner; which at first glance looks like the Uluru; however when we realized we were still 150Km away the excitement level went down.  Mount Conner apparently gets confused with the Uluru more often than what one would think according to the park rangers at the Uluru.  We also say Lake Amadeus, a salt water lake in the middle of the desert.

We finally arrived at the Uluru!.  At exactly 4:29pm we reached the main gate at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.  We got our 3 day ticket and headed to the sunset lookout recommended by the park rangers.  We had our first good look at this magical rock at 5:06pm and from there on we could not get our eyes off this beautiful place.  It is one of those places that will leave you talking about it for days but words cannot fully describe what you experience when you look a this magnificent place.  It is also very significant as it is a sacred place and very important for the Anangu, the indigenous people of the area.
