Hoy
estuvimos todo el dia en Baan Chang, una reserva para elefantes que han sido
rescatados de lugares donde no les dan muy buen trato. Este lugar tiene 26 elefantes y
soamente 1 ha nacido en cautiverio, los otros han sido adquiridos, comprados o
rescatados en la selva.
El dia
comienza con una introduccion a los elefantes y su comportamiento, como debemos
acercarnos a ellos y cuales son un poco temperamentales y hay que tener mas
cuidado. Despues de la induccion
empezamos a darles comida… basicamente bananos y caña de azucar. Todos quieren que uno les de comida y
hasta tartan de robarse los bananos del piso o de las manos. Estuvimos tambien jugando con el
elefante feliz “Happy”, un elefante de un poco mas de 2 años al cual le estan
enseñando a succionar con la trompa y la mejor manera es usar el sudor de los
turistas… ellos lo llaman besitos de elefante, pero es una babiada la berraca!
Despues de
darles comida nos enseñaron los comandos para montar en elefante, trajeron un
par de elefantes y de a uno practicamos los comandos… esto es un poquito de
cuento, pues uno realmente no comanda el elefante, el “mahout” esta siempre al
lado del elefante y yo creo que es al unico al que le hace caso.
Despues de
almuerzo estuvimos montando en elefante en la selva. La reserva tiene un camino donde llevan a los elefantes a
caminar… el recorrido dura mas o menos 1 hora.
Finalmente
llevamos los elefantes al lago para darles un baño. Esta es la mejor parte del paseo. El elefante realmente disfruta que uno le cepille la piel y
mientras mas duro mas le gusta. El
baño dura como 20 minutos, despues de eso se llevan los elefantes para los
establos donde pasan la noche.
Vale
aclarar que el parque de elefantes Baan Chang es muy professional en el manejo
de los elefantes, nos impresiono que ninguno de los elefantes tiene marcas en
las patas de las cadenas con las que los amarran, cosa que vimos mucho en los
elefantes de Sri Lanka e India.
Los que cuidan los elefantes y toda la gente que trabaja en este lugar
realmente quieren ayudar estos animales y los tartan muy bien.

Today we
went to Baan Chang Elephant Park, a rescue elephant reserve. This place has 26 elephants that have
been rescued and 1 has been born in captivity. All of them have been acquired, bought or rescued from the
jungle.
The day
starts with an introduction to elephants and their behaviour, how we should
approach to them and which ones have a temper. After the introduction we started feeding them bananas and
sugar cane. Everyone of them wants
to get a share of the food and even try to steal food from you or from the
floor. We also played with
“Happy”, as the name says, the happy elephant. This is a 2 year old elephant and he needs to be trained to suck,
so they use the sweat from tourists… they call it kisses, but it is nothing
like that!
After we
fed them the guide taught us the commands to ride an elephant, they brought a
couple of elephants and we practiced the commands… I still do not believe that
I was commanding the elephant, the “mahout” was next to him all the time and
this is the only person the elephant really trusts.
After lunch
we rode the elephant in the jungle.
The reserve has a path where they take the elephants for a walk… it is a
1 hour ride more or less.
Finally we
took the elephants to the lake for a well deserved bath. It is the best part of the day. The elephant really enjoys that you
scrub him and the harder you do it the happier he gets. Bathing the elephant takes around 20
minutes, after that they take the elephants to the stables for the night.
It is well
worth mentioning that Baan Chang Elephant Park is very professional in the way
they treat the elephants, it was impressive that none of them had marks in
their legs from the chains; we saw so many in Sri Lanka and India with very bad
marks because of the chains. All
the workers and the guides that work here really show a passion for the elephants
and want to help them.

Me muero!!me muero, yo quiero montar en elefante, darles comida y bañarlos,y que tambien me den besitos...que belleza, que buen programa, hasta los uniformes que les pusieron me gustan, les quedan muy bien...que rico

Ah!! se me olvido comentar que el vídeo de la montada de Marce en el elefante es una belleza y luego la delicadeza del animal para que ella se bajara es increíble. Claro que siempre debe dar susto que ese animal se "ofuzque" y le de por correr, que hace uno en ese caso?? de donde se coge?? porque me imagino que siempre son altos, así que hay peligro...!ay mama que chuto".
