Dia 287 / Day 287 - April 15/2013

Nos levantamos a ver el amanecer y con la esperanza de ver los Himalayas.  El amanecer estuvo bonito, pero para desconsuelo de nosotros no pudimos ver los Himalayas… esta muy nublado y no se ve nada.  A medida que pasan las horas el clima se pone peor, asi que nos va a tocar quedarnos con las ganas de verlos desde Nagarkot.

Salimos de Nagarkot y llegamos a Bhaktapur, un pueblo que tambien tiene una plaza declarada patrimonio cultural de la humanidad por la UNESCO.  Alli estuvimos caminando por toda la plaza y las callecitas pequeñas.  La verdad este lugar es muy impresionante, su arquitectura, templos y edificios lo hacen un lugar muy agradable.  Caminando por las calles del pueblo oimos unos tambores, musica y gente cantando… y como buen metido me fui a ver que era.  Habia una celebracion porque era el dia del dios Ganish y es el dios del barrio.  La gente tenia un templo portatil en el cual hacian sus ofrendas y oraciones a Ganish.  Los señores estaban tocando diferentes instrumentos y cantando.  Ellos notaron nuestra presencia pero fueron indiferentes al principio… yo estaba tomando fotos y disfrutando de este evento que posiblemente solo presenciaremos una vez en la vida.  Cuando me meti mas en los grupos tratando de tomar fotos estuve conversando con el fotografo del pueblo y me conto lo de la celebracion… en ese momento los señores vinieron y nos ofrecieron “cerveza de arroz” y nos pusieron la Tika.  La verdad fue una experiencia increible por lo que significa para la gente celebrar el dia del dios local.

Despues fuimos a Patan, otro pueblo con plaza reconocida como patrimonio cultural de la humanidad por la UNESCO.  Alli tambien estuvimos caminando por las calles del pueblo y viendo los templos y edificios.  Es bonito, pero la verdad no nos impacto tanto como la plaza de Bhaktapur.

We woke up early hoping to see the Himalayas and a beautiful sunrise.  The sunrise was beautiful, however we could not see the Himalayas… it was too cloudy and we could not see anything.  We are not going to be able to see them from Nagarkot, later during the day it will be worse.

We left Nagarkot and went to Bhaktapur, another town that has a square declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site.  There we walked around the square and all the small streets.  This is a very impressive place; the architecture, temples and buildings make it a very special place.  While walking along the streets we could hear drums playing, music and people singing… so I went to check it out.  There was a celebration because it was Ganish day and it is the neighborhood’s god.  The old men were playing different instruments and singing.  They noticed we were there and did no care at the beginning… I was taking pictures and enjoying the experience that probably will be a once in a lifetime.  When I started getting closer to the groups of kids and ladies I noticed there was a local photographer so I started talking to him and he was the one that told me about the celebration… at that moment the old men came and offered home made “rice beer” and put the Tika on us.  It was truly an unforgettable experience because it is very special for them to celebrate their god’s day.

Later we went to Patan, another town in the Kathmandu valley that also has a square declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  There we also walked the town’s streets and looking at the temples and buildings.  It is beautiful but not as impressive as Bhaktapur’s square.
