En la mañana del 12 de
Mayo tomamos un bote para Hpa-An, navegando sobre el río Thanlwin nos va a
tomar 4 horas en llegar. Los botes
que operan en este momento son pequeños, para 8 a 12 pasajeros, y son usados en
su mayoría por turistas. Hace un
par de años había un ferry mucho más económico y que usaba la gente local, pero
el servicio terminó cuando construyeron un puente que hace el recorrido en bus
mucho más rápido (también nos dijeron que el ferry se había volteado, pero no
podemos verificar esa version de la historia).
El bote hace una parada en
el pueblo Kor Nat de donde nos llevaron en un camióncito al monasterio U Nar
Auk. Los templos y construcciónes
del monasterio son muy bonitos con la historia de la vida de Buda tallada en
madera.
En nuestro recorrido por
el río pudimos ver cómo vive la gente en esta área. Mucha gente viene al río en la mañana a bañarse, lavar la
ropa y pescar. Hay mucho tráfico
en el río pues algunos de los pueblos son solamente acquibles en bote. También vimos muchas dragas extrayendo
pierdas pequeñas del fondo del río.
El paisaje se pone muy
impresionante llegando a Hpa-An cuando las montañas de piedra caliza aparecen
de la nada. Es un paisaje hermoso.
Antes de llegar a Hpa-An
el bote se detuvo de un momento a otro, pero el motor todavía estaba
funcionando. El lanchero supo inmediatamente
que había pasado, sacó la propela del agua y le faltaban pedazos. El lanchero se tiró al agua con una
propela de repuesto y una llave e hizo el cambio en un minuto.
Llegamos a Hpa-An al medio día, nos instalamos en el hotel y
planeamos nuestro próximo recorrido... visitar algunas de las cuevas en la zona.
Reservamos un tour de todo el día
para ir a visitar las cuevas.
En la tarde tomamos otro
bote para cruzar el río e ir a Hpa-Pu, una montaña que tiene una vista muy
linda. Desde el río hasta el pico
de la montaña la caminada es de 45 minutos. Cerca a la cima encontramos una estructura de bambú, nos
subimos a ella pero estábamos súper asustados... se movían mucho con el viento.
La vista es magnífica. Desafortunadamente no nos pudimos quedar
hasta el atardecer porque el último bote para cruzar el río de nuevo es a las
6:00pm... aunque habíamos negociado con el señor del bote para que nos esperará
hasta las 7:00pm, pero igual no era suficiente tiempo para ver el atardecer y
bajar a coger el bote. Sin embargo
vimos un atardecer hermoso al lado del río. Cuando llegamos al pueblo visitamos la Pagoda Ye para tomar
unas fotos.
El 13 de Mayo salimos para
nuestro tour de las cuevas en un tuk-tuk con otras 6 personas. Primero visitamos la cueva Yathaypyan
que tiene muchos budas y varios murales. Desafortunadamente solo tuvimos 20 minutos en la cueva, muy
poquito tiempo para tomar buenas fotos.
La segunda cueva que
visitamos fue la cueva Kawgun o Kaw-Gone. La entrada a la cueva esta decorada
con muchas estatuas de Buda, tallas en las rocas y pintada de muchos colores. Al lado de la cueva hay una escaleras
para un mirador y la vista es maravillosa.
La tercera parada fue Kyauk Ka Lat, que también se llama el
templo en el lago. Hay un templo pequeño en la roca en la mitad del lago y
están construyendo uno más grande al frente.
La cuarta parada fue el
jardín de Lumbini, en honor a el lugar donde nació Buda en Nepal, hay 1,080
estatuas de Buda alineados perfectamente.
Después visitamos la cueva
Saddam. Esta es la cueva más
impresionante, es bastante grande y esta llena de estalactitas y estalagmitas. Al otro extremo de la cueva hay una
salida donde se puede tomar un bote que nos pasó por otra cueva y nos dejó al
otro lado del lago de donde caminamos al punto de partida.
Finalmente, visitamos la
cueva Kaw Ka Taung, una cueva pequeña llena de estatuas de Buda. Esta cueva parece tener muchos donantes
porque ya le construyeron un piso de mármol y tiene muchas otras estatuas
comparada con las demás cuevas.
A las 5:00pm regresamos al hotel y averiguamos de la Cueva Linno o Cueva
de los Murciélagos... nos dijeron que teníamos que salir inmediatamente si
queríamos ver los murciélagos, y como por supuesto los queríamos ver salimos en
otro tuk-tuk hacia allá. Esperamos
como una hora hasta que los murciélagos empezaron a salir de la cueva. Al principio empezaron a salir unos
pocos y nos pareció interesante pero no creímos que valdría la pena... pero
unos minutos después empezaron a salir miles. Es un show impresionante, miles
de murciélago salen todas las noches a las 6:30pm a comer y regresan a las
3:00am. Es uno de esos momentos
donde se aprecia realmente la belleza de la madre naturaleza. Los videos están súper!

In the morning of May 12 we took a boat to Hpa-An. Navigating up the Thanlwin River it
will take around 4 hours to reach Hpa-An.
The boats operating nowadays are small boats for 8 to 12 passengers and
mostly used by tourists. There
used to be a big ferry, which was much cheaper and frequently used by locals
but it was canceled after the construction on a bridge a couple of years ago
(we were also told that one of them capsized but cannot verify that story).
The boat stops at Kor Nat village where we took a small
truck that brought us to U Nar Auk Monastery. The temples are beautiful with lost of painted woodcarvings
depicting the life of Buddha.
Continuing along the Thanlwin river we could see how people
live in the area. Most people come
out in the morning to take a bath, wash their clothes or go fishing. There is also a lot of traffic along
the river as most villages in the region are only accessible by boat. We also saw a lot of dredging boats
extracting fine stones from the bottom of the river.
The landscape becomes quite impressive just before arriving
in Hpa-An as the limestone rock formations appear out of nowhere. It is quite the scene!
Just before arriving in Hpa-An the boat suddenly stopped but
the engine was still running. The
driver knew exactly what happened, he pulled the shaft out of the water and the
propeller was missing some pieces.
The driver immediately jumped in the water with a wrench, a spare
propeller and got it changed in no time at all.
We arrived in Hpa-An around noon, got to the hotel and
planned our next trip… visiting some caves around the area. We booked a full day tour around the
area to visit several limestone caves.
In the afternoon we took a boat across the river to go to
Hpa-Pu, a hill where we can have a nice view of the area. From the river to the top of the
mountain was a 45 minutes walk.
Close to the top we found a bamboo tower, which we climbed but were shit
scared for our lives… it moves with the minor wind blow. The views are breathtaking! Unfortunately we could not wait for the
sunset as the last boat was at 6:00pm… although we had negotiated with a boat
driver to take us across at 7:00pm we knew we did not have enough time to go
down and be by the river at 7:00pm.
Nevertheless we witnessed a beautiful sunset by the river. On the way back to town we stopped at
Ye Pagoda for a couple of pictures.
On May 13 we got on a tuk-tuk with 6 more people and headed
for the caves. We first visited
Yathaypyan Cave which has a lot of Buddha statues and wall paintings. Unfortunately we were only given 20
minutes inside the cave which was way too short to take good pictures.
The second cave we visited was Kawgun or Kaw-Gone cave. The entrance is decorated with a lot of
Buddha statues as well as carvings of Buddha images on the rock and painted in
different colors. Next to the cave
there is a set of stairs that took us to a viewpoint. The views were amazing!
The third stop was at Kyauk Ka Lat, also called Temple on
the Lake. There is a small temple
on a rock in the middle of the lake and they are building a big temple just on
the opposite site.
The forth stop was at Lumbini Garden, named in honor of the
birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal.
There are 1,080 Buddha statues perfectly aligned.
We then visited the Saddan Cave. This is probably the most impressive cave of them all. It is a massive cave with beautiful
stalactite and stalagmite formations.
The exit of the cave is one the other side where you have the choice of
taking a small boat to take you inside another cave and then drop you off at
the end of the lake for a walk back to the cave entrance area.
Finally we visited Kaw Ka Taung Cave, a small cave with lots
of Buddha statues. This cave seems
to be getting a lot of good donors as there is already a white marble floor
installed and other improvements compared with other caves.
At around 5:30pm we came back to the hotel to ask about the Linno Cave or Bat Cave… they told us that we had to leave immediately if we wanted to see the
bats. Of course we wanted to see
the bats so we got into another tuk-tuk and left for the bat cave. We waited for around one hour before
the bats started coming out the cave.
At the beginning a few of them came out and we were excited but thought
it was not worth the trip all the way here to see just a few hundred bats
coming out of a cave… but a few minutes later thousands of bats started coming
out of the cave. This is a very
impressive show, they come out every night at around 6:30pm to feed and come
back to the cave at around 3:00am.
It is one of those moments when you really appreciate Mother Nature at
its best. The videos are breathtaking!

ReplyDeleteVarias cositas: Puede que en Mawlamyine haya muchos templos, mezquitas, monasterios y pagodas muy bonitos, pero la pobreza que se ve en las calles es terrible. A quien se le ocurriría fabricar TANTO buda, que monton...... y eso de los murciélagos si no me le mido a verlos, que tal que se choquen con uno??? mama que chuto
