Our backpacking trip: Diciembre 5 / December 5

Nos levantamos temprano y fuimos al I-Site a preguntar que habia para hacer en la zona. Hay miles de cosas para hacer en esta area.

Decidimos tomar un tour en barco por el Lago Taupo que nos llego a ver unas piedras talladas por Maori. Creimos que estas tallas era muy viejas pero nos explicaron que solo tienen 50 años. Sin embargo son muy bonitas e impresionantes!

Despues del paseo en barco fuimos a las cascadas Huka. Estas cascadas tienen unos rapidos muy fuertes y hay un 0% de probabilidad de sobrevivir si uno cae al agua.

En la tarde fuimos a un parque llamado Craters of the Moon (Crateres de la Luna), un area con formaciones geotermicas como las que hay en Rotorua. Esta area no es muy antigua asi que no es tan impresionante como lo que se ve en Rotorua.

Despues nos encontramos con Carla y Facundo y fuimos a Kinloch, un pueblo pequeño a las afueras de Taupo. Luego estuvimos en la casa de ellos haciendo un BBQ. Facundo preparo unas hamburguesas deliciosas. Pasamos la noche en el popular camping de la zona.

We woke up early in the morning and went to the I-Site to get some recommendations about what to do around town. There are too many things to do around here.

We embarked on a boat tour around Lake Taupo, which took us to the Maori carvings. We thought these carvings were quite old, however found out that they were only done around 50 years ago. Nevertheless they are very beautiful and impressive!

After the boat tour we went to Huka Falls. In this area the rapids are very aggressive and apparently the survival chances if you fall in the water are 0%.

In the afternoon we went to Craters of the Moon, a geothermal park where we could see mud pools, steam vents and similar geothermal formations like the ones in Rotorua. This area is not too old so it is not as impressive as what we saw in Rotorua.

We met with Carla and Facundo and went to Kinlock, a small town near Taupo. In the evening we went to Carla and Facundo’s house for a BBQ. Facundo cooked great burgers for dinner; we had a few beers and went again to sleep at the very popular free campground.
