Our backpacking trip: Diciembre 11 / December 11

Pasamos la noche en el camping del departamento de conservacion Broken Hills, localizado en el Valle Puketui… mejor dicho en la mitad de la nada!, en la via a Coromandel. En la mañana hicimos una caminada que nos recomendo el guardabosques, que incluia unos tuneles de mineria abandonados, cuevas y en una de ellas habia un esqueleto, pero no habia nada de informacion a cerca de el.

Despues paramos en Tairua y subimos el monte Paku de donde tuvimos una vista espectacular del pueblo.

Llegamos a Coromandel al medio dia y fuimos a la playa de agua caliente; pero cuando llegamos nos dimos cuenta que la marea estaba subiendo y no pudimos disfrutar la, nos va a tocar volver mañana.

Llegamos a Whitianga por la tarde. Encontramos un muy buen camping para pasar un par de noches.

We slept at Broken Hills Campground from the DOC, located in the Puketui Valley… to be exact it is in the middle of nowhere!, on our way to Coromandel. In the morning we went for a hike that the ranger recommended, it included a couple of old mining tunnels, caves and one of them had a skeleton in it, however there was not much information about it.

We stopped at Tairua and went to Paku Summit where we had a beautiful view of the town.

We reached the Coromandel Peninsula around noon and went straight to the hot water beach; however when we got there the tide was coming in so we could not enjoy it, we are going to have to come back.

We headed to Whitianga for the night. We found a very nice campground to spend a couple of nights.
