Dia 239 / Day 239 - February 26/2013

Today we hired a driver that will take us to herigate sites around Mysore.  First we went to Srirangapatna, a fortified town.  There we visited the ruins of the Lal Mahal Palace, Colonel Bailey’s Dungeon, Gumbaz, Sultan Tipu’s place of death and the Ranganathaswamy Temple.  We also visited the Dariya Daulat Bagh (The wealth of the sea), which was Sultan Tipu’s summer palace.  Built in 1784 A.C. this place is completely decorated with wall and ceiling paintings depicting victories of battles against the British.

In the afternoon we drove across several towns to arrive in Somanathapura, a small town, where the Keshava Temple is located.  Built in 1268 A.C this is a perfect example of the Hoysala style of arquitecture.

In the evening we took the sleeper bus from Mysore to Hampi.  On the bus we met Feliks from Germany and Natasha from England.
