Our backpacking trip: Junio 2 - 3 / June 2

El 2 de Junio caminamos por Mandalay. Visitamos algunos templos, el Palacio y el Puente U Bein. Por la noche fuimos a ver a los "Mustache Brothers", un espectáculo de comedia que se burla del gobierno militar ... tuvo unos cuantos momentos graciosos, pero en general el espectáculo no era lo que esperábamos.

El 3 de Junio contratamos un conductor para llevarnos a varios lugares que queremos conocer. La primera parada fue Mingun donde visitamos un par de templos y la segunda campana funcional más pesada del mundo con 90 toneladas, que nunca fue instalada.

Luego nos detuvimos en Sagaing Hill había una vista muy bonita del valle y Mandalay. También visitamos la Academia Budista Internacional.

La última parada fue Inwa, la antigua capital de Myanmar. El taxi nos dejó a un lado del río y la única manera de cruzar es en un pequeño ferry. En el otro lado solo se puede movilizar en carreta tirada por caballos ... aunque no nos gusta este tipo de transporte tuvimos que hacerlo pues no tenemos mucho tiempo antes de cruzar de nuevo el río para que el taxi nos lleve al aeropuerto.

A las 3:30 pm nos llevaron al aeropuerto; desafortunadamente hubo un poco de drama cuando le pagamos al conductor. Habíamos arreglado el precio y los lugares para visitar con su hermano el día anterior y el no nos pudo llevar porque tenía que ir a Yangon a visitar a su mamá en el hospital. Cuando le pagamos el conductor comenzó a pedir más dinero diciendo "no es suficiente", le dijimos que habíamos arreglado el precio con su hermano. Intentó llamarlo, pero no contestaba. En un momento respondió pero cuando traté de hablar con él, se colgó. Al final el conductor se fue pero dejó un mal sabor en nuestra boca porque no era la forma en que queríamos terminar este increíble viaje. Desafortunadamente no teníamos más dinero para darle, de lo contrario habríamos resuelto el desacuerdo con bastante facilidad, aunque también pensamos que habíamos pagado el precio justo, pues es lo que habíamos acordado con su hermano... este pequeño incidente no cambia los recuerdos maravillosos que tendremos de este país.

Pasamos un mes maravilloso en Myanmar, es un país increíble para visitar. Este país se suma a la lista de países que tenemos que visitar de nuevo. Tantas personas sonrientes y amables que conocimos en las últimas semanas, siempre dispuestas a ayudarnos y darnos la bienvenida con una sonrisa. No había necesidad de hablar el mismo idioma, siempre pudimos comunicarnos. Fue una experiencia increíble la que vivimos, estamos tristes de irnos pero sabiendo que volveremos algún día!

On June 2 we walked around Mandalay. We visited some temples, the Palace and the U Bein Bridge. In the evening we went to see the “ Mustache Brothers”, a comedy show that makes fun of the military government… it had a few funny moments, but in general the show was just not what we expected.

On June 3 we hired a driver to take us to several places we want to see. The first stop was Mingun where we visited a couple of temples and the second heaviest working bell in the world at 90 tons, which was never installed.

We then stopped at Sagaing Hill where we had a nice view of the valley below and Mandalay. We also visited the International Buddhist Academy.

The last stop was Inwa, Myanmar’s old capital. The car stops across the river and the only way to cross is by passenger ferry. Moving around the area in the other side is by carriage… even though we do not like this type of transport we had to do it because we only had over an hour to see a few places before coming back to the car to be dropped at the airport.

At 3:30pm we were dropped at the airport; unfortunately there was a bit of drama when we paid the driver. We had arranged the price and places to visit with his brother, who had to go to Yangon to visit his mom in hospital. When we paid him he started asking for more money saying “not enough”, we told him that we had arranged the price with his brother. He tried calling him but there was no response. In one instance he answered but when I tried to talk to him but he hung up. At the end the driver left but also left a bad taste in our mouth because this is not the way we wanted this amazing trip to end. Unfortunately we did not have more money to give him, otherwise we would have settled the dispute fairly easily, although we were also thinking that we were being fair to pay what his brother requested… this however does not change the amazing memories that we take from this country.

We spent a wonderful month in Myanmar, it is an amazing country to visit. This will be added to the list of countries that we have to visit again. So many happy and amazing people we meet in the last few weeks, they are always ready to help you and welcome you with a smile. There was no need to speak the same language we were always able to communicate. What an amazing experience we had, we are sad to leave but knowing that we will come back again.
