Our backpacking trip: Abril 9 - 11 / April 9

El 9 de Abril cogimos el tren desde Jakarta hasta Yogyakarta (Yogya como abraviacion). Fue un viaje de 8 horas y media atravezando la isla de Java. Fue interesante ver algunos de los cultivos de arroz, sin embargo la mayoria del tiempo parece que las ciudades nunca terminan. Hay que tener en cuenta que la isla de Java es la mas populada del mundo con 141,000,000 de habitantes segun el censo de 2015.

Llegamos a Yogyakarta en la tarde y fuimos a dar una caminada por la calle Malioboro… es el centro de la accion en Yogya, llena de gente, tiendas, artistas callejeros, comida callejera, etc. Pero lo mejor son los picaros que le estan hechando a uno el cuento de ir a tiendas donde venden telas y prendas hechas con Batik… algunos dicen que son profesores y que los estudiantes son los que hacen el trabajo y quieren ganarse unos pesos, otros pretenden estar ayudando a un amigo, otros ofrecen el “museo del batik”, algunos pretenden ser nuestros mejores amigos y muchas mas historias.

El 10 de Abril estuvims visitando algunos de los lugares historicos de Yogya. Estuvimos en el Palacio del Sultan, Taman Sari Castillo del Agua y Mezquita Subterranea.

El 11 de Abril salimos para Borobudur. Cogimos el bus local y en un poco mas de una hora llegamos a Borobudur. Vamos a visitar el Templo Budista de Borobudur.

On April 9 we took the train from Jakarta to Yogyakarta (Yogya for short). It was an 8 and a half hours train ride through Java. It was interesting to see some rice fields, however for the most part you think that the city never ends. Keep in mind that Java is the most populated island in the world with 141,000,000 habitants as of 2015 census.

We arrived in Yogyakarta late in the afternoon and when for a walk around Malioboro Street… this is where the action happens in Yogya, full of people, stores, street performers, street food, etc. But you have to love the touts luring you into batik shopes with very entertaining stories… some are batik professors and the students are trying to make a living, some are just trying to help a friend, some offer you the “batik museum”, some try to be your new best friend, and many othey funny stories.

On April 10 we visited some of the historical sites around Yogya. We went to the Sultan Palace, Taman Sari Water Castle and The Underground Mosque.

On April 11 we left for Borobudur. We took the local bus, which took only just over 1 hour to reach Borobudur. We will be visiting the Borobudur Buddhist Temple.
