We spent most of these days
by the beach. On Saturday January
14 the temperature rose to 36C plus humidity so it was very hot. We found Tallow Beach, a few kilometers
from Byron Bay, a very secluded beach without the amount of people that Byron
Bay beach gets.
At around 12:10pm or so we
see that the life guards were asking everybody out of the water. I tried to go in but they stopped me
and told me that the beach was closed because they had sighted a shark just 300
meters away from the next beach.
The beach was going to be closed for 45 minutes or so.
The beach was reopened at
1:00pm and there were not signs of sharks around.
In the afternoon we went to
the local market and had dinner there… we had Balinese food just to warm up for
our trip to Indonesia. When we
were having dinner on the grass we heard some people talking about a spider…
sure enough, there was a guy with a big spider on his back and a lady took it
out with a slap, I still do not know if it was a venomous spider or not!
In the evening we drove down
to Ballina, a place where we found a free rest area to spend the night. The heat did not want to go away and
the evening turned into a hell of a night. Marcela could not sleep much because of the heat. At around 3:00am there was heavy rain
and thunderstom… it was a night to forget!
On Sunday January 15 we went
back to Tallow Beach but the weather did not cooperate; after a couple of hours
started raining so we left and went to a lookout before heading to town for chicken wings and a couple
of beers.
We are sleeping in a
different place tonight. We found
a campground to spend the night but they did not charge us! We are going to walk up early in the
morning to see the sunrise in Byron Bay as it is the first place that see the
sun in Australia.
