Our backpacking trip: Septiembre 1 - 5 / September 1

El 1 de septiembre salimos del hotel “5-estrellas” en Dumaguete, fuimos al puerto y tomamos el ferry a Siquijor. En Siquijor conseguimos un triciclo que nos llevó a San Juan, parando en varios lugares en el camino para buscar un hotel. Finalmente encontramos Good Vibes, un lugar muy agradable frente al mar ... ¡va a ser difícil sacar a Marcela de aquí!

Vinimos a Siquijor porque Martyn, mi instructor de buceo, nos recomendó el buceo aquí. Veremos si es otro sitio de buceo que cumple con las expectativas. Por la tarde fuimos a Sea Pear Divers y reservamos un par de inmersiones para mañana. Más tarde fuimos a San Juan y nadamos un rato en un manantial que hay en el pueblo, con agua fría ideal para el calor!

El 2 de septiembre conocimos a Jay, el dueño de Sea Pearl Divers, quien nos llevó a bucear en Paliton Wall y Coral Garden. Ambas inmersiones fueron increíbles, este lugar está lleno de vida y la visibilidad fue increíble. Coral Garden es como estar en un acuario, muchos tipos de peces, hermosos corales y no están tan profundos entonces se pueden apreciar mejor los colores.

El 3 de septiembre alquilamos un par de motos y fuimos a dar una vuelta por la isla. La primera parada fue el Santuario Marino de Tubod, donde fuimos a hacer snorkelling. Otro gran lugar para ver la diversidad de vida marina que Filipinas tiene para ofrecer. Después fuimos a una cascada, estábamos buscando una muy popular, pero terminamos en otra diferente ... igual muy rica para nadar y refrescarse un poco. También fuimos al Parque Mount Bandilaan, donde subimos a una torre desde donde hay una vista hermosa de la isla. En el camino de regreso a San Juan paramos en la cueva Cantabon pero ya estaba cerrada.

El 4 de septiembre fue un día de relajó, no hicimos mucho…

Disfrutamos mucho de este pedazo de paraíso del que ya tenemos que despedirnos... el 5 de septiembre tomamos un triciclo a la ciudad de Siquijor y desde allí otro a Larena, de donde sale el ferry a Bohol. Desafortunadamente, el viaje en triciclo desde San Juan a Siquijor también tubo un pequeño contratiempo... otra llanta pinchada, lo que nos puso a pensar, si es que estamos demasiado pesados para estos triciclos. El conductor quería cobrarnos 100 pesos, cuando la tarifa completa era de 30 pesos y solo íbamos en la mitad del camino y además necesitábamos otro triciclo. Le di 20 pesos y él ni siquiera discutió. Conseguimos otro triciclo que nos llevó a donde podemos coger el siguiente a Larena. Llegamos a Larena, compramos el pasaje del ferry, almorzamos y abordamos el ferry.

El ferry de Larena a Bohol es un ferry rápido, tardó como una hora en llegar a Tagbilaran en la isla de Bohol. Luego tomamos una van que nos llevó a nuestro hotel en la Isla Panglao.

On September 1 we left the shithole hotel in Dumaguete, went to the port and took the ferry to Siquijor. Once in Siquijor we got a tricycle that took us to San Juan and stopped in several places for us to look for a hotel. We finally found Good Vibes, a very nice place in front of the sea… it is going to be difficult to take Marcela out of here!

We came to Siquijor because Martyn, my diving instructor, recommended the diving here. We will see if it is another dive site that lives up to the expectations. In the afternoon we went to Sea Pear Divers and booked a couple of dives for tomorrow. Later we went to San Juan and took a dip in the spring, nice cold water to freshen up ourselves in this hot weather.

On September 2 we met Jay, the owner of Sea Pearl Divers, who took us diving in Paliton Wall and the Coral Garden. Both dives were amazing, this place is full of life and the visibility was incredible. The Coral Garden was like being in an aquarium, lots of different kinds of fish, beautiful corals and not so deep so we could appreciate the colours.

On September 3 we rented a couple of motorcycles and went for a drive around the island. The first stop was Tubod Marine Sanctuary where we went snorkelling. Another great place to see the diversity of marine life Philippines has to offer. We then headed to a waterfall, we were looking for a very popular one but ended up on a different one… it was still nice to go swimming and chilling for a little bit. We then headed to Mount Bandilaan Park, where we climbed a watch tower where we got a beautiful view of the island. On our way back to San Juan we stopped at Cantabon Cave but it was already closed.

September 4 was a lazy day, we did not do much, just take it easy by the sea.

We are having to say goodbye to this piece of paradise… on September 5 we took a tricycle to take us to Siquijor town and from there take another one to Larena, where we can get the ferry to Bohol. Unfortunately the tricycle ride from San Juan to Siquijor was also an eventful one… another flat tire, which makes you wonder if we are too heavy for these tricycles. When we got off, almost half way, the driver wanted to charge us 100 pesos, when the full fare was 30 pesos and we needed to get another tricycle. I gave him 20 pesos and he did not even argue. We quickly got another tricycle that took us to where we can get the next one to Larena. We got to Larena, got our ferry tickets, had lunch and boarded the ferry.

The ferry from Larena to Bohol is a fast ferry, it took just over an hour to reach Tagbilaran in the island of Bohol. We then took a van that drove us to our hotel in Panglao Island.
